We report on the fast reversible switching induced by Joule heating of epitaxial and polycrystalline La0.s3Sro.i7Mn03 films from the ferromagnetic to the paramagnetic state by using high power nanosecond electrical pulses. Good agreement obtained between simulation and experiment for the epitaxial films demonstrates that heating is adiabatic and uniform, and electronic processes induced by electric fields play no role. For polycrystalline films, the electronic processes reducing the film resistance take place within a subnano-second time. For longer times, adiabatic non-homogeneous Joule heating is the main reason for the switching dynamics. Possibilities for device applications of this phenomenon are discussed.
