Estimation of development of the Lithuanian railway sector

Abstract

The European Union and Lithuanian transport policies are focused on sustainable and environmentally friendly transport development, as well as creating the green transport corridors. This policy framework is conducive to the development of Lithuanian railways, promoting the competitiveness of the services provided. Therefore to see that the strategic aims of AB "Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai" related to ensuring quality of freight and passenger services are being successfully implemented. In the article is present analysis of rail freight volumes, rail freight structure, environmental protection way, common advantages and possibilities of Lithuanian transport systems, network of Lithuanian railways, estimating of transportation by rail perspectives, environmental protection. In the article are described innovations using in Lithuanian railways too.
