Abstract
Most of 1520 mm railways operate locomotives manufactured in the Soviet Union, but they are replaced by new ones when the time has come. The operation of new diesel locomotives leads to the question whether the methodologies for calculating the braking distance of trains provided for Soviet locomotives can be applied. This article describes a research carried out in Lithuania, according to the results of the research of which the braking distance of a train with a diesel locomotive of the new generation can be up to 15 percent lower than with the Soviet one.
