Abstract
The numerical model for the time-dependent analysis of the SDOF frame under the earthquake excitation of the foundation is developed. The model accuracy is verified according to the energy balance as well as using FEM-based time-history analysis. The account for the viscous damping provides for avoiding the possible resonant effect resulting in a steady state response of the frame column. The build-up resonant response to attain the steady state requires much more cycles with decrease in the damping values. The viscous damping forces produce the decrease in the internal forces obtainable in the elastic time-dependent analysis.
