Reinforced concrete cracks and cracks spacing

Abstract

The presence of cracking does not necessarily indicate a deficiency in strength or serviceability of concrete structures. Also cracking is a fact in reinforced concrete construction because of the low tensile strength of concrete while specific causes of cracking are numerous. Cracks are caused by stresses that develop in concrete due to restraint of volumetric change or due to external loads applied to the structure.
