Assessment of the Correct Distribution of the Selected Type of Goods on the Loading Area of the Semi-Trailer: Case Study

In Europe, the most common method of transporting goods is via road transport. Lorries account for a large portion of this, since is the most effective and capable type of vehicle. It has a big loading area, so it can carry lot of goods. Based on statistics from road accidents, specifically accidents where the transported goods were damaged, half of them were not correctly secured or positioned on loading area by driver. The purpose of this article is to propose the correct position and design a layout for safely securing specific cargo in any given lorry. First, one vehicle was selected, in order to be weighted with portable measuring weights. In addition, the dimensions of the vehicle were also measured using a measuring tape. The collected data was analysed and calculated. Based on calculations, no problems have been discovered when positioning the cargo on the loading area. Provided that in the future more attention should be paid to correctly secure and position the cargo in the loading area, in order to improve transport safety.
